Ever feel like there is competition between bloggers (beauty, fashion, or a life bloggers)? I do. After a while it becomes a popularity contest of who has the most followers. Does having more followers make your blog better? In my opinion, no. But it seems that way.
I feel like a lot of blogs are underrated because they only have 10, 50, or even a hundred followers. For example, if a popular blogger has 400 followers and post an Outfit if the day; they have 20+ comments. In contrast if another blogger post an Outfit of the day they might only get 4 comments, because they only have 30 followers. To me it's like what's the difference, it's the same kind of post. What about two bloggers writing a review on the same product? Just because one blogger has more followers does not mean the other blogger with less followers are wrong, or that their opinion is not credible.
When bloggers overlook one another because of the amount of followers they have, I get a little annoyed. Just because someone does not have hundreds of followers like you, does not mean their blog is horrible. I feel everyone should give each other a chance. From what I have seen a lot of people stop blogging because their discouraged and put down. Sometimes these are people who have been blogging for 3 years. Instead of overlooking one another we all should be helping each other become better.
This is only my opinion and what I've experienced and noticed with other bloggers. I truly believe there is no right or wrong to blogging, about what makes you happy or what you love to do.
What do you think?
I think that social media make the difference. It's the way you keep in contact with people and respect them and also give them the chance to be a part of your life.Being a blogger doesn't mean you have to write just because you know you'll reach thousand of followers and comments. The best part of being a blogger is that you have the chance to spread your opinion and some nice messages. But you need to keep in contact with people, that's really important.Again...social media (twitter,instagram...) this is the magic word!(And a little bit of kindness,I think it's a huge part of being a blogger or a good person-in general) :)

I don't think it's a popularity contest at all and I've never thought a review was worth less because of the amount of followers they have. I generally think people over think blogging or they don't realise how much work goes into it. I've never noticed competitiveness amongst bloggers either... If anything I think most bloggers are just wanting to communicate with each other and widen their audience because they want to share their little bit of the worldwideweb with more people.

It makes me sad to think that some may view bloggers with less followers as inferior. We all started with 0 followers after all! In many ways I prefer bloggers with less followers because they seem to communicate more which is nice. Xx
ReplyDeleteTo me, I don't see blogging as a competition, it shouldn't be as it's a space for anyone to share their ideas and thoughts. I love reading and discovering new blogs :) Although I agree with you that there are some people who do see it as a competition which is sad :( Why try to put someone down because they have more followers? What's the point of being so mean? Very luckily i've not personally come across any of these people as think the majority of the blogging community are such lovely supporting people, it's the minority that ruins the reputation:( I hope you've not experienced this personally :(
ReplyDeleteBtw thank you very much for following my blog! I really really appreciate it :) I can't wait to read more inspiring and insightful posts from you :) x
this quote is absolutely true. we shouldn't be too focused on our competitors but should really work on self improvement first. another thing is that it takes time to build a following, and therefore patience is very important too.

I don't see blogging as a competition, but it pretty much is. Most blogs are ran by women, and women are natural competitive, so it's kind of understandable. But I'm not a competitive person, I really don't have the energy for that, but I think following people on Bloglovin, no matter how many followers they have always helps me find small blogs, like my own, with some really good, well written posts, witch is my favorite thing! But I don't think anyones work should be defined by the amount of followers they have! Some people are lucky, and some aren't! But it's true what you're saying, people do make it feel like a competition. But i think it pays of more in the long run to be kind to everyone, and comunicate to everyone!
ReplyDeleteReally good post too!

I agree we should be helping and supporting each other. Oddly enough though, a lot of my favourite blogs have fewer readers, I love how they are more open and honest and pander less to other people. Too many big blogs now seem to be blogging for the wrong reasons or about things they know will get hits.
