I really don't know how to start this off, but I guess the title is self explanatory. Anyone with anxiety knows the struggle, whether you deal with it daily or sometimes. I'm not an expert so this isn't an advice post. Everyone has different experiences with how they deal with anxiety but this is something we all have in common. Anxiety can be caused by a number of things, one of them being stress. Although there are tips to manage stress unfortunately it will always be there. Sometimes I feel like my mind is always going a hundred miles per hour. I am always overthinking about the craziest things. But I can't help it and sometimes I just cry about. People who don't understand think it's all made up but it's reality. Well at least the rest of us. If I don't make sense, I apologize in advance. I use to handle pressure pretty well. It's like I thrived from it and my adrenaline fed off of it. For example, I'm a procrastinator. Although not nearly as much when I was younger.
Sometimes I find myself doing this whether it's with blogging or other things. Then I realize how much it annoys me and I can't take it. I know from experience when I have anxiety building or I start to get anxious, my chest starts hurting. That feeling is the worst and sometimes taking deep breaths does not help. Just by being on social media, I've noticed a lot of people mocking others for having anxiety. I don't understand why there are rude people like this. Something like this cannot be made up unless you're doing it as a sick joke. One thing people need to understand is that you don't just wake up one day and say I'm going to have anxiety just for hell of it. No it doesn't work like this, while most try to manage others may not be able to control it. This isn't exaggerated and it should be taken seriously.
If you are someone that doesn't have anxiety, put yourself in the shoes of someone who does. It's not a good feeling and it affects people everyday. Sometimes my anxiety is caused by my OCD, that is another topic for another day. But I'll give an example of what happens. I wash my hands a lot and I don't even have to touch anything to get that feeling. Also when I finish washing my hands I constantly check to make sure the water is turned off. I check to make sure all of the faucets are turned off, because I don't want anything to overflow. I hope I'm making sense to you. This really bothers me and I'm trying to work on it, but just like I check the faucets I check the doors to make sure it's locked. This causes my anxiety to go up and I become frustrated with myself. All of this is a result of stress for me, but there isn't a time when I'm stressed. Another reason for anxiety can be from a loss or a traumatic experience, it's not just one reason.
You never really know what someone is going through or the battles they are fighting on a daily basis. All of these things are not made up. Anxiety isn't something that can be turned on and off like a light switch, it doesn't work like that. If you're someone who thinks it does, well I'm sorry but you're wrong. This post isn't bashing people who do not understand and if you feel this way, it's not my intention. I'm simply saying instead of making jokes or brushing someone's anxiety off, be there for them. If you do not know them, pray or hope they get better. Most importantly, if you're the person dealing with anxiety find people who are supportive towards. Find people are positive and try to encourage you. Know that you are strong and I believe things will get better for all of us.
If you deal with anxiety feel free to share what you do to manage it.
Great post. As someone that has anxiety, I feel you. It's difficult to go through it, but it doesn't help the situation when there's people that make jokes about it. Mental health is not a joke and I definitely think it needs to be talked about more so those people that don't understand it can start learning about it!
